Almaia and the Skylings

A fantastical realm of magnificent spires jut from the clouds dangling over Naimus. These seemingly weightless buildings are ancient and held aloft on the air currents through long forgotten technology or perhaps - magic. Very few know this land exists for only those on Naimus in possession of flying machines and extremely keen vision could ever hope to locate it. Almaia's location is not fixed; it is as fickle as the winds that carry it. Because of this, very few are aware of its splendors.

The residents of these lands are the legendary Skylings. On the surface of Naimus, they are considered but childish fairytale characters. However, they exist in secret amongst the clouds.

The Skylings resemble humans greatly and could likely breed with them (had they the chance). They are extremely intelligent and crafty. Their technology is beyond the comprehension of humans: they skirt the skylines, riding kites and gliders that seem to never drift too far from their home in the clouds and never dip too close to Naimus.

It is chilly up in the sky. Therefore, the Skylings wear fashionable parkas, shawls, gloves boots and other necessary accessories to brave the cold. It is rare to see a Skyling showing unnecessary skin (unless they have drifted into a land where it is summer, of course). Goggles are a key item in their wardrobe as it tends to be windy in the sky. Almost all of the Skylings, including young children, have their own glider which is small and compact enough to carry on their backs.

Skylings generally are very pale creatures, their pigments mimicking their sky environment. With white skin (sometimes with a glisten of blue) and blue and/or white hair - darker pigments are extremely attractive to the Skylings.

Their society is a peaceful one with little to no interaction with the world below. No one exactly knows how or why the Skylings got to living in the sky. It is vaguely stated in their historical texts that the Skylings separated from Naimus long, long ago - being too advanced to live comfortably with the primitive creatures below. Their technology ascended them into the sky - and there they have stayed and evolved for tens of thousands of years.
